MICROBIA ENVIRONNEMENT

Activities

The proliferation of certain aquatic microorganisms, in freshwater as well as in the marine environment, can strongly impact human activities related to the use of water, whether they are recreational or essential. Asphyxiation of the environment, trophic imbalances, production of toxins constitute real and unfortunately growing threats for many ecosystems. We all know that preserving water resources is a major societal issue. At Microbia Environnement, to contribute to this, we strive to develop innovative, reliable, and economical solutions to improve microbiological monitoring systems, for the benefit of:

• managers of aquatic sites and water resources, • professionals in the aquaculture industry (fish farming, shellfish farming), • health authorities • authorities responsible for environmental protection • and all the economic activities which are linked to the previous points.

For all water stakeholders, there is a growing demand for reliable information on the risk associated with microbial proliferation / dissemination. And this in real time, in order to be able to initiate actions, inform decision-makers (authorities, political representatives), and finally bring transparency to the public, which, in the current context, demands more and more. Combining expertise in microbial ecology and molecular biology, our team has designed and developed an innovative technological platform based on genetic biosensors for very sensitive detection of microalgae and potentially toxic (cyano-) bacteria present in water. Integrated into a regular monitoring plan, by defining a risk period, our technology makes it possible to draw up a “weather forecast” of the water quality to react several days in advance to a risk of contamination.
